Stone Sailing Club: 25th and 26th June

11 Snipes gathered at Stone Sailing Club over the weekend 25/26 June. In a contrast to recent hot weather the conditions were overcast and blustery Force 3. The snipes were the 2nd start behind a Phantom fleet. The race officer could get the race off first time as the fleet were sailing against the tide.

Richard Lambert crewed by Patrick Biddulph got off to a good start, closely followed by Ian Knight and Graham Hoy and Iain and Richard Marshall. After some close racing around the “P” course it was Richard and Patrick who took line honours closely followed by Alan Williams and Liz Crouch. The 2nd race started quickly in similar conditions this time the Marshall’s got away, again closely followed by Alan and Liz.

The fleet then retired to the club where following a meal the Snipe fleet challenged the Phantoms to some games. The fleets were fairly evenly matched with some members meeting their match in the competitive stakes!

On Sunday the wind had dropped slightly. This time Mark Antonelli crewed by Susan Robertson, who had just returned from a year in South Africa, got the best start taking a port flyer. Brian Gregory crewed by daughter Anne had a good start and got their new Persson moving well to take 2nd.

In the final race it paid to take the right hand side of the beat, going a long way in shore out of the tide. This time Guy Welch and Alison Brannon and Nick McGongigle crewed by daughter Hannah found themselves in front, with Mark and Susan close on their heels.

It was a fierce battle right to the end where Mark and Susan took the line just in front of Nick and Hannah. With 2 wins, the overall winners were Mark and Susan. Richard and Patrick put in some consistent results, not dropping out of the top 3 to take 2nd overall in front of Iain and Richard.

The fleet would like to thank Stone Sailing Club for their excellent race organisation and their hospitality.

1st Mark Antonelli and Susan Robertson, Budworth SC

2nd Richard Lambert and Patrick Biddulph, Blue Circle SC

3rd Iain Marshall and Richard Marshall, Maldon YC
