Budworth Sailing Club: 23rd and 24th September

As well as entries from Blue Circle SC in Kent, there were a few guest appearances from the RS200 fleet who gathered at Budworth SC for the 54th annual meeting. With light winds forecast it was no surprise for the crews to be met by a mere 4 knots of breeze the usual taxing shifty conditions ensued. Alan Williams and Peter Wolstenholme led the 1st race with a blistering start, Ian & Brian Gregory were in hot pursuit but it was Mark Antonelli and Susan Robertson who recovered from their poor start to take the 1st of their three wins. Neil and Jenny Martin made an amazing recovery from mid fleet, banging the left hand of the final beat to slide into 2nd place. After another good start in similar conditions, race 2 was won convincingly by Alan and Peter. In race 3, Neil and Jenny came into form and secured their 1st of 2 wins. Graham Bristow and Caroline Fox enjoying their first day in a Snipe, soon got to grips with the different handling to over haul Mark & Susan to take 2nd place.

Sunday’s races were held in 1 – 6 knots of wind. Neil & Jenny secured race 4 with the Gregory’s in 2nd. In race 5, Neil and Jenny were leading, but on the final beat the wind lifted from the wrong side of the lake for them and Mark & Susan overtook them and took the win. The final race lasting well over an hour, saw a dog fight between Mark/Susan, Graham/Caroline and the Gregory’s, with the breeze filling and dropping. Having taken the lead on a few occasions Graham & Caroline kept the pressure on Mark & Susan the whole race, but it was Mark & Susan who crossed the line 1st securing the regatta.
